BLACKWOOD Story

A DVD shop, a past that will not stay buried, and 2012 New York.

Story and Characters Hub

BLACKWOOD is pitched as a cinematic third-person thriller, not a silent protagonist sandbox. This hub collects what the studio has said in public about people, place, and tone. It stops before Act 1 mission spoilers. For the mechanical double life, use Getting Started and dual economy. Character pages:

  • Anton Blackwood — shop owner, contract killer, the save file’s name
  • Amelie — the assistant who keeps the counter alive when you leave

The reveal trailer on this page is the tone reference: noir 2012 New York, neon, and a man who does not want to talk about his past. It is not a plot recap.

2012 New York as a character

Official copy repeats an authentic recreation of New York, 2012, with Brooklyn as Anton’s working neighbourhood. Ads, tattoos, and posters are supposed to carry story. That matters for players who skip environmental detail in action games. BLACKWOOD is asking you to read the street the way you read a mission brief. Grand Army Plaza appears in the prologue clip the studio chose to show. Subway platforms, Brooklyn garages, and night streets fill the screenshot set. This is not a generic “city map” you unlock by towers. Treat locations as scenes.

The year is a constraint. DVD retail still makes sense. Phones are not 2026 phones. The soundtrack language in coverage leans toward that early-2010s night-drive mood. None of that is a mission spoiler. It is why the shop fantasy works.

Double life, not a costume change

By day Anton runs a small DVD store, restocks, prices, and talks across a counter. By night he takes contracts. The basement of the shop is described in preview coverage as more than a stockroom. The official Steam text is milder and safer: the store is where you live, decorate, and roleplay a normal existence. This wiki follows the Steam wording for facts and leaves basement speculation off the page until Act 1 can be cited.

Someone is watching. Japanese and English previews both mention a presence that monitors and tries to steer Anton while he is already stuck between morality and a past that will not stay buried. That is the thriller hook. It is also why emptying both wallets on guns and ignoring Amelie is a story mistake as well as a money mistake. The game wants the legal life to remain visible.

How much story is in Act 1

The release announcement is the structure bible. Act 1 launches September 16, 2026 with four main missions plus multiple side missions. Act 2 (March 2027) adds four main missions. Act 3 (September 2027) adds five. Owners receive later acts as free updates. You are not buying a complete three-act novel on day one. You are buying the start of one, at the lowest planned price if you enter at Act 1. Keep that straight on the roadmap so story discussions do not treat an unfinished arc as a plot hole.

Marvel-style “flawed people” language showed up in some interviews. Take that as a tone hint: characters are allowed to be messy. Do not expect a superhero origin in a game whose Steam descriptors include blood, gore, intense violence, strong language, and drugs and alcohol.

How to use these pages without spoiling yourself

  1. Read Anton Blackwood for the public biography.
  2. Read Amelie before you skip shop dialogue.
  3. Learn the calendar in store management so you do not game-over before a story beat.
  4. Stay off mission-title lists until you finish a night; this hub will add those titles after launch with spoiler labels.
  5. Use combat when you want to know how a scene is supposed to feel in the hands.

This is an unofficial wiki. If a later patch or Act 2 recap changes a relationship flag, the character page will change. We will not invent last names, ages, or endings to look complete. The reveal trailer is the ceiling for “what we know” on day one of a page like this.

Other people in the frame

Screenshots show mechanics, drivers, and enemies who are not named in press kits. They get no biography here. If Act 1 introduces a named handler, a named client, or a named cop, they will receive their own short pages under this hub and link back. Until those names are in the subtitles file, they stay as roles: customer, contract, threat.

Single-player is the mode. There is no shared campaign. Your save is Anton’s month, not a lobby. That also means missing two bills is your ending, not a friend’s revive. The thriller is personal on purpose.
