BLACKWOOD Pre-Release Preview
Trailer strengths, Act 1 limits, and what is still unreviewed.
This page is a pre-release preview of BLACKWOOD, not a scored review. Act 1 launches on September 16, 2026 on Steam for Windows. There are no Steam user reviews yet because there is no public build to score. What follows is a systems-and-tone read of trailers, the store listing, and studio posts: what already looks strong, what is still a slice, and who should wait. For the calendar stamp, use release date. For the three-act plan, use the roadmap. For first-day habits, use Getting Started.
What BLACKWOOD is selling
BLACKWOOD is a single-player cinematic third-person shooter from AttritoM7 Productions, the studio behind Zero Hour, published with IZilla Games. You play Anton Blackwood in reconstructed 2012 New York: DVD shop by day, contract killer by night. The pitch is not an open-world crime sandbox. It is a double-life loop with bills attached.
Official combat language is consistent: dives, rolls, slides, cover, more than 30 contextual takedowns, and more than 30 weapons as unique modular instances. Health is staged. A takedown restores some health. Choreography Mode lets you assign unlocked takedown animations to slots so finishers play in a sequence you chose; it does not change enemy behaviour or difficulty, and you can toggle it off. On the highest difficulty, ammo can stay off the HUD until Anton physically checks the gun.
The daytime half is the part coverage under-sells. Clean Cash from the shop, daily life, and some special missions pays rent, store upgrades, outfits, and civilian guns. Dirty Cash from contracts buys black-market hardware. Monthly bills sit around 11–13k. Miss once and police or loan sharks start a warning. Miss twice and the run is over. Autopilot shop days are described as about $60–80. Hands-on management can reach $500 or more. That split is the whole argument for reading store management and dual economy before you treat the counter as flavour.
What the IGN gameplay trailer actually shows
The embed on this page is IGN’s upload of the official gameplay trailer — a prologue clip, not a highlight reel of every Act 1 mission. The studio’s own caption is specific: Anton has stolen a USB from a mob outfit for a client, the job goes wrong, and the footage cuts ahead to avoid major spoilers. He comes up from the sewers and is cornered near Grand Army Plaza at night. The remaining minutes are cover fire, dives, contextual takedown work, and a street built as a chain of spaces rather than an arena with a health crate.
Watch it for weight and camera, not for campaign length. Coverage often reaches for John Wick and Max Payne. Those are player and press comparisons about motion and gun-fu, not an official license. AttritoM7 is not selling a franchise tie-in. If the trailer sells you on nights and you skip the shop, you have only seen half the game the systems were built around.
The same clip is also a reminder of limits. It is a prologue sequence the studio chose to show. It is not proof of how long Act 1 is, how dense the 2012 New York map becomes after the opening, or how the monthly bill feels when you have to sleep. Booth footage from Gamescom 2026 at the Infernozilla stand (August 26–30) is the same category: a hands-on slice, not a public Steam demo listed as a live download.
Combat that already has a voice
If you only care about nights, the public footage is the strongest part of the pitch. Movement distance scales with speed. Aiming during a dive can briefly slow time. Each takedown is contextual: distance, angle, and nearby geometry (cars, doors, railings) change the finisher. Special Dirty Cash items unlock unique takedown animations. That is a wallet choice as much as a skill choice. See combat for the night loop and weapon customization for why a damaged drop can still be inventory. Conservative builds keep a civilian day gun and one modular night platform instead of eight unfinished rifles.
Staged health plus takedown healing is the design that will punish regenerative-cover habits. You cannot full-reset after every room. Highest-difficulty hidden ammo is listed as an experiment in developer commentary, so treat it as a tension toy that may still be tuned before September 16.
Act 1 is a chapter
Act 1 ships four main missions plus side content at $24.99. Act 2 is planned for March 2027 (four mains). Act 3 is planned for September 2027 (five mains). Later acts are free for owners. New-buyer prices rise to $29.99 and then $34.99. If you need a finished novel on day one, wait. If you want the cheapest official path to the three-act story if those windows hold, September 16 is the buy. The roadmap keeps that distinction honest.
Limits you should price in before you wishlist
- English only on Steam: interface, full audio, and subtitles. This wiki’s French, German, and Spanish pages are for readers, not a client promise.
- PC Steam only in the current listing. No Mac, no Linux, no console SKU on the store page. Full controller support is listed, including Xbox pads and DualSense.
- Hardware: 16 GB of RAM and an SSD are required. Minimum is GTX 1650 class; recommended is RTX 3060 class. Confirm numbers on system requirements.
- No scored review yet. Anyone posting a numeric score before the Steam button says Play is guessing.
- Mature: blood and gore, intense violence, strong language, drugs and alcohol. Steam’s descriptors also include partial nudity. This is not a kids’ title.
Use the bill planner if the 11–13k month is the part that worries you more than the gun-fu. Use official links for Steam and studio channels. Come back to the Updates hub after launch for patches instead of scavenging social posts.
Who this preview is for
Buy or wishlist if the double life is the fantasy: you want to restock a Brooklyn DVD shop, then spend Dirty Cash on a night that looks like the IGN clip. Wait if you need localised audio, a console SKU, a complete three-act campaign, or a review average that does not exist. This wiki will replace preview language with first-week notes when Act 1 is actually playable. Until then, treat every guide as systems study, not a finished walkthrough.
Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a scored review of BLACKWOOD?
No. Act 1 is not out. Steam has no user reviews yet. This page is a pre-release preview of systems and trailers, not a numeric score.
Is there a public Steam demo?
A playable demo ran at Gamescom 2026 at the Infernozilla booth (August 26–30). A downloadable Steam demo is not listed as a live product.
How much of BLACKWOOD is Act 1?
Four main missions plus side content at $24.99. Act 2 (March 2027) and Act 3 (September 2027) are planned as free updates for owners. See the roadmap.

No. Those comparisons appear in coverage because of gun-fu and 2012 New York. AttritoM7 Productions made an original story about Anton Blackwood. There is no official license.
